What is the difference between PCR test, rapid test and antibody test?

  • The LEAD Horizon corona test kit can detect a viral infection about 6 days before the symptoms up to 20 days after the symptoms
  • The rapid test (antigen) can detect the virus from about 2 days before the symptoms up to 17 days after the symptoms
  • With the antibody test (IgG/IgM) the virus can be detected as early as 10 days after infection

Is this an anti-body test?

No. Evaluation by means of PCR shows whether the test person currently has covid-19 disease. An antibody test is used to examine the immunity that is built up by the body after a COVID-19 disease.

Where can I get the test?

BIPA offers the Corona Home Kits from LEAD Horizon in about 500 stores throughout Austria and in the BIPA online shop at www.bipa.at. You can also order the test kits at shop.lead-horizon.com.

Why should I do a Corona test?

Targeted testing is the key to contain Covid-19. The self-test at home provides certainty, especially for people who do not want to take any risks and who want to exclude the likelihood of Covid-19 disease - for example, when travel or contact with at-risk persons is imminent.

Why is this test so expensive?

The quality of the laboratory test has the highest priority. It meets the highest medical standards. A guarantor for this is the renowned Viennese virologist Professor Steininger. We offer the test set at a market-conform and attractive price.

How do I return the sample to LEAD Horizon?

You have 3 options:

Please either hand in the sealed package to the Austrian Postal Service carriage forward as "dangerous goods", or have UPS conveniently collect it from your home on the next working day (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays). Please note that if you pick up the package from home via UPS, please take the sample on the day of pickup. We, LEAD Horizon, will cover the postage costs for both options. Alternatively, you can also drop off your sample directly at our premises at Sandwirtgasse 12/2 in 1060 Vienna from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 a.m. to save yourself the time of shipping. Our samples are brought to the laboratory from Monday to Friday at 1 p.m.. It is not possible to deliver samples at the weekend or to evaluate them over the weekend.

How long do I wait for my test result?

The result is delivered via web app (website) within 24 hours of arrival in the laboratory. Samples are received by us from Monday to Friday between 9 and 12 a.m.. Samples received by 12 a.m. on Friday will receive the result by Saturday at the latest. Please note that the postal service (no matter if via Austrian Post or UPS) is not included in the 24 hours. You also have the possibility to drop off the sample directly at our premises at Sandwirtgasse 12/2 in 1060 Vienna, in order to save the shipping costs.

When can the virus be detected by LEAD Horizon test kits?

The time between infection and detection is highly variable due to the spread of the virus. But according to current knowledge, people are not infectious before the virus is detectable in the throat.

What happens if my findings are positive and I am therefore infected with the corona virus?

If the result is positive, the tested person is notified via WebApp. As the laboratories are obliged by law to notify the health authorities, the customer is automatically notified to the authorities.

Can BIPA view my data? Who has access to my data?

No, BIPA cannot view your data. Access to the data is restricted to the people in the laboratory and LEAD Horizon. Because privacy is very important to us, we have a maximum retention period of 14 days. After this period the data will be deleted.

Can I also test my children?

There is no age limit. Once a child can rinse its mouth with a saline solution and spit through the transfer tube into the buffer tube, it can perform the test.

Does the test hurt?

No. The painless collection of the sample differs from previous tests: Up to now, tests have been very unpleasant, the swabs were taken deep from the throat and nose. With the LEAD Horizon self-test, this is simply done by using a throat rinsing fluid that is rinsed in the mouth.

Does this test count as confirmation for trips abroad, business appointments, ...?

The test meets the highest medical standards, is painless and complication-free and is evaluated in a certified laboratory using PCR. It complies with the requirements defined in the legal text. On request, a certificate can also be issued as an official confirmation by the authorities.

How exactly does the confirmation for authorities work? What do I have to do?

Both during the test and after receiving the test result, the Web App offers the possibility to have a certificate issued. This costs an additional 1.90 euros and can be downloaded as a PDF.

How can I make sure that I did not apply the test incorrectly and only got a negative result because of it?

Please follow the application description exactly to avoid a wrong test result.

What is a PCR procedure?

The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) procedure amplifies DNA obtained from a smear. Even the smallest amounts of virus can then be detected - before the patient notices the first symptoms. The PCR method is regarded as reliable, as the "gold standard" among test methods and has established itself internationally.

Why is no nasopharyngeal swab taken?

Scientific evidence from several internal and external studies indicates that the sensitivity, specificity and predictive value of the LEAD Horizon workflow using mouthwashes is similar to that of nasal swab specimens tested by PCR. However, the LEAD Horizon workflow has many advantages over testing nasopharyngeal swab specimens:

  • Mouthwashes guided by our web app allow you to collect samples reliably wherever you want - especially at home - instead of travelling long distances to a certified laboratory, with the risk of a car accident or infection in the lane in front of the laboratory.

  • Mouthwashes are simple, convenient, reliable and safe instead of the pain and risk of local bacterial infection associated with nasopharyngeal swabs.

  • LEAD Horizon's streamlined workflow saves valuable time - you may receive a test result within days of the first symptoms instead of having to make an appointment with a healthcare provider or institution, drive to the lab, have the swab taken, etc.

Is the test only stable for 30 days or why does it need to be done within 30 days?

For quick results, the test must be performed within 30 days from the day of purchase. This ensures that the return of the test does not exceed the laboratory capacity.

After 30 days I can no longer use the test and must dispose of it?

Correct. This ensures test capacity and the associated rapid transmission of results (within one working day of arrival at the laboratory).

What is a QR Code and where can I find the QR Code for scanning?

A QR Code is a two-dimensional version of the barcode you probably know from product packaging. It looks like a black and white pixel pattern. You will find the QR Code in the packaging of the Corona self-test. After the scan, the web app opens at homekit.lead-horizon.com. You can of course also open the website on your smartphone directly via the browser by entering homekit.lead-horizon.com in the address line.

Is the WebApp subject to a fee?

No, the web app is free and is not available from the Apple Store or Play Store. All you have to do is open the link homekit.lead-horizon.com via your browser. After the purchase you only have to pay the shipping costs.

Can I delete the app after I have received the test result?

This is a WEBApp. When the customer scans the QR Code, the web app, i.e. the website, opens automatically. There is no need to install an extra app and therefore no need to delete it.

Will my data be saved and processed?

Your data will of course be treated confidentially and will only be stored for a maximum of 14 days in order to issue a certificate if desired or to be able to carry out the obligatory notification in case of positive test results on the basis of the Epidemic Law.

Where/how is the data stored temporarily?

With your consent, LEAD Horizon GmbH processes your data. For the purpose of COVID-19 testing, your data will be transferred to an available/assigned laboratory in your region, which will process the data on its own responsibility. In case of a positive status, the laboratory is legally obliged to report the infection to the responsible health authority. Your data will not be passed on to third parties.

What happens if I accidentally swallow the saline solution?

It is a saline solution. Swallowing it is completely harmless to your health.

How safe is the test?

The highest possible quality standards are applied to the test. The PCR tests are carried out exclusively in certified partner laboratories that are verified by independent, governmental testing agencies.

How does the identity verification take place?

After opening the WebApp and placing the smartphone in the cradle, the smartphone's camera is activated and the customer is asked to hold a photo ID into the camera. The web app also works on laptops/PCs or tablets. The customer is filmed while the test is being carried out. This video is used by the laboratory to determine the identity. A photo is also taken. This photo is printed on the certificate, which can be optionally downloaded, after the test result has been received, to allow additional identification - for example by a border guard.

How much does a test cost?

A test costs 119 euros including taxes. Depending on the order quantity, we offer variable price scales.

Does my employer receive the data when tests are ordered?

For information to be passed on to the organisation, each organisation can obtain individual declarations of consent from the persons to be tested. We are of course happy to support you in this.

How long does the testing process take approximately?

A sample collection takes less than 2 minutes. The test result is then available within 24 hours.

How high is the sensitivity and specificity of the tests?

Scientific evidence from several internal and external studies indicates that the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values for the LEAD Horizon workflow using mouthwashes are similar to those obtained by PCR testing of nasopharyngeal swab specimens. However, the LEAD Horizon workflow has many advantages over nasopharyngeal swab testing:

  • Mouthwashes guided by our web application allow you to collect samples reliably wherever you want - especially at home - instead of travelling long distances to a certified laboratory, with the risk of a car accident or infection in the lane in front of the laboratory.
